Google Unveils Pixel 10 Pro Fold with Dust Resistance and Qi2 Wireless Charging

At its Made by Google event, Google officially took the wraps off the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, its latest foldable flagship. This next-generation foldable brings a handful of key upgrades compared to its predecessor, including improved durability and a world-first feature for foldables – Qi2 wireless charging.

One of the most notable upgrades is the IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. Until now, foldable phones have struggled with dustproofing due to their hinge mechanisms. For perspective, Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z Fold 7 only features an IP48 rating, leaving it vulnerable to dust intrusion.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s new rating means it’s completely protected against dust and can be submerged in water up to 1.5 meters for around 30 minutes. This is a big step up from the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which carried only an IPX8 rating — resistant to water but lacking dustproof protection.

First Foldable with Qi2 Wireless Charging

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the first foldable smartphone to adopt the Qi2 wireless charging standard, which was introduced by the Wireless Power Consortium in 2023. Built on Apple’s MagSafe foundation, Qi2 uses a magnet-based alignment system to improve charging efficiency and reduce energy loss.

Google is pairing this with its new PixelSnap ecosystem, a proprietary magnetic accessory platform designed to mirror the convenience of MagSafe. This should enable seamless charging and compatible accessories like snap-on wallets, stands, and cases.

Specs and Features

Beyond durability and charging, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold comes with an 8-inch internal OLED display when unfolded and a 6.4-inch external OLED screen covered with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Its hinge is crafted from a high-grade aluminum alloy, designed to withstand long-term folds and flips.

Inside, the smartphone runs on the new Google Tensor G5 chipset, paired with 16GB of RAM and storage options up to 1TB. Google has also packed in a triple rear camera system — a 48MP wide sensor, a 10.5MP ultra-wide sensor with macro support, and a 10.8MP telephoto lens with enhanced zoom capabilities.

Pixel 10 Pro Features

Powering all of this is a 24-hour battery, which can stretch to 84 hours with Extreme Battery Saver. Fast charging delivers 50% charge in about 30 minutes.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold officially launches on October 9, 2025, with a starting price of $1,799. By contrast, Google’s other Pixel phones from the same lineup will ship earlier, on August 29, 2025.

Google is clearly positioning the Pixel 10 Pro Fold against Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. While Samsung still dominates the foldable market, Google’s new dust resistance and Qi2 wireless charging give it compelling differentiators. Analysts suggest these upgrades may appeal to users who prioritize durability and future-proof charging standards, particularly as the Qi2 standard is expected to become widespread across Android and iOS devices in 2025.

Industry experts also note that Google’s integration of AI into Pixel photography and software optimization could give it an edge in camera performance and battery efficiency, two critical factors for premium devices.
