The National Security Agency (NSA) has ushered in a new era of leadership in its cybersecurity directorate with the appointment of Dave Luber. He succeeds Rob Joyce, who retired on March 31 after a distinguished 35-year career at the agency.
Dave Luber’s appointment was announced in February when Joyce’s retirement was made public. Rob Joyce, a highly respected figure in the cybersecurity community, had been serving as the NSA’s cybersecurity director since early 2021. His retirement marked the end of an illustrious tenure that spanned over three decades.
Dave Luber brings to the table more than 30 years of experience in the field. Prior to his new role, he served in various capacities within the NSA and other defense agencies. His roles included Deputy Director of Cybersecurity at the NSA, Executive Director of the US Cyber Command, Director of NSA Colorado, Program Director within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, and Chief of the NSA’s Tailored Access Operations (TAO) hacking unit.
As the new Cybersecurity Director, Dave Luber will be at the helm of the NSA’s cybersecurity directorate. The directorate’s mission is to prevent and eradicate cyber threats to the Department of Defense, National Security Systems, and the Defense Industrial Base. In his own words, Dave Luber expressed his honor at taking up the new role and his eagerness to build on the team’s outstanding accomplishments.
